Chondrometrics GmbH was pleased to welcome a delegation of osteoarthritis researchers from the Southern Medical University in Guangzhou (China) to its office in Freilassing, Bavaria.
The visit took place in connection with the 20th International Workshop on Osteoarthritis Imaging, held in Munich from June 23–26, 2026. The delegation visited Chondrometrics on June 22 to exchange scientific perspectives, present ongoing projects and trials, and discuss the role of imaging in clinical osteoarthritis research.
Professor Changhai Ding from Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, with additional affiliations at Tsinghua University, Beijing, and the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia, participated virtually in the very lively meeting.
The delegation was led by Professor Zhiqiang Wang from Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, who also has affiliations with the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Second Hospital of Anhui Medical University in Hefei (China) and Boston University (USA). He was accompanied by Professor Yan Zhang, Dr. Weizhong Qi, and Dr. Shiqian Huang, from Southern Medical University, Guangzhou.
Professor Ding and Professor Wang both serve as OARSI National Ambassadors for China. Professor Wang is also a member of the OARSI Strategic Alliance Committee.
During the visit, both teams presented ongoing research activities and discussed potential avenues for collaboration, including the sharing and application of quantitative imaging measures in osteoarthritis research and clinical trials, and enjoyed the very engaged discussion.
Building on its established image analysis methods and increasingly scalable AI-based technologies, Chondrometrics is actively expanding its clinical image analysis services in the East Asian region. This is of strategic relevance, given the substantial activity in osteoarthritis research, putative DMOAD development, and clinical trials that take place in China and in the wider region.
Later this year, Felix Eckstein, CMO of Chondrometrics, will visit Southeast Asia, including participation in the Annual Meeting of the Chinese Orthopedic Association (COA) in Guangzhou and visits to OA research groups in Hongkong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Bejing (China). He will also visit South Korea to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
Chondrometrics is grateful to the delegation from China for making the journey to Europe, visiting the company’s headquarters in Freilassing, and for contributing their imaging data and perspective to IWOAI 2026.
