Some project milestones deserve more than just a plain check mark in a spreadsheet. They call for a long table, tasty food, refreshing drinks, lively conversation, and plenty of laughter — and, above all, the people who made the achievement possible.
On 15 July, the Chondrometrics teams from Munich and Freilassing came together to celebrate the completion of the first of two large Phase 3 clinical trials investigating a potential new disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug.
Central to the success and celebration were Jana Daimer, Gudrun Goldmann, Sabine Mühlsimer, Annette Thebis, and Barbara Wehr, whose meticulous cartilage contour segmentations formed the foundation of the analytical pipeline.
Alongside them were Anna Wisser, who steered the study as project manager and Susanne Maschek (with a PhD in QC) who ensured the quality of the segmentations. Wolfgang Wirth, who kept our software in adequate mood to transform close to ½ a million carefully traced cartilage contours into the 3D morphometric compartmental, single-plate, and subregional variables that make our product so special.
This was precision work on a large scale, with around 2,000 knee MRIs processed — requiring concentration, consistency, patience, and genuine teamwork over many months.
What better place to celebrate than Hafez in Munich, with wonderful Persian food, shared plates, a warm atmosphere — and, unexpectedly, a dramatic World Cup semifinal? For one evening, contours, quality checks, timelines, and data deliveries gave way to stories, smiles, and the simple pleasure of being together: good company and a happy company.
The first trial is complete. The second is underway. The entire team is energised, motivated, and ready to bring the second Phase 3 trial of the same therapeutic compound across the finish line.
Keeping our fingers crossed: sails set, fair winds, following seas, and bon voyage!
